on a mission to find the greatest love in the universe

Month: February, 2012

You’re one of my favourite Peep-le, Valentine!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

One (of the many) unfortunate things about growing up is that you’ll never be quite as excited about a holiday as you were when you were 5. Remember how you wouldn’t be able to sleep on Christmas eve because all you could think about were the presents you’d get to open in the morning? (This actually never happened in my childhood. We didn’t celebrate Christmas) To overcome that feeling, I decided to send out Barbie Valentines to my dearest friends, the way I did in grade 3, except back then I had a paper bag stuck on the side of my desk with my name on it embellished with paper hearts and doilies, and also back then I had to give Valentines to EVERYONE in my class, even if they had the cooties.

Another one of my most cherished childhood memories was waking up after a sleepover at my cousin’s house and my aunt would make us Peeps Hot-Chocolate for breakfast. It wasn’t necessarily a Valentine’s Day Special but it sure was Special. What could be better than a mug of hot chocolate and marshmallows on a chilly winter morning? A mug of hot chocolate with a yellow-sugar-coated marshmallow shaped like a chick swimming around in a “pond” of hot-cocoa.

Now you too can live one of my favourite childhood memories with this ridiculously easy recipe below, courtesy of Aunt Cammy:)

Bon Apetit!

Peeps Hot-Chocolate

What You’ll Need:

  1. Bring the water or milk to a boil in a kettle or over the stove (If you’re using milk, watch it carefully! As soon as it boils it will try to bubble over the pot!)
  2. Open your packet of Hot Cocoa Mix and pour it in the cup
  3. Pour the hot water or milk in to the cup
  4. Stir
  5. Place one (or two if they’ll fit) Peep on top of your cup of hot cocoa and watch it swim!
  6. Experience the warm and fuzzy feelings of Peep hot chocolate from your childhood ❤

And here are some pics I googled of the many varieties of Peeps that are available!

As promised, I ❤ U Peeps

Liu Bolin x Harper’s Bazaar

This has to be the most brilliant idea in fashion 2012. Chinese artist Liu Bolin, a.k.a “The Invisible Man” is known for his camouflage art by painting himself to disappear in to his surroundings, much like a chameleon.

This March 2012’s issue of Harper’s Bazaar, Bolin has collaborated with some of today’s most prominent fashion designers: Angela Missoni, Alber Ebaz, Jean Paul Gaultier and Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli of Valentino; painting their bodies from head to toe to blend them in to their signature designs in an 8-page editorial entitled “Lost in Fashion”. It’s brilliantly executed and delightfully charming…I must admit I had to look twice at some of them to realize there was anybody there! It’s like playing Fashion Eye-Spy!

Gracing the cover of this month’s issue, the darling Gwenyth Paltrow. There’s something about this woman’s golden tresses and muscle tone that I instantly recognized it was her even before reading the headline.

And for a little extra fun, here are two of Liu Bolin’s trickiest (at least I think so) camouflages:

It took me a while…

Ice-Cream Parlour

Here are some totes-adorbs photos from the Louis Vuitton s/s 2012 campaign featuring the lovely Kati Nescher and Daria Strokous in a dreamy 1950’s ice-cream parlour adorned in everything pink.

If you ask me, the snow doesn’t want to fall all that badly anyway. So how about we just skip Winter all together and welcome a sunny Spring in these post-war pastel eyelet lace dresses, peter-pan crochet collars, fruity sorbet handbags, and a triple-thick-strawberry-malt-milkshake with a cherry on top, s’il vous plait?

As soon as I saw this picture of Kati in her platinum-blonde tresses, it instantly reminded me of Jessica Stam from the “Circus” or as I like to call it the “Cotton-Candy” campaign back in 2006 for Americana Manhasset Magazine.

It’s damned if you don’t and it’s damned if you do

You know when a song just captures you and you want to fall asleep listening to it and you want it to be the first thing you hear when you wake up.. Metal Heart is my current obsession. I love the lyrics, I love the sadness.. In my opinion, it’s one of the best tracks from Catpower’s Jukebox album. I prefer it over the original Moon Pix version… I found the lyrics for the extended version, but I  don’t think I’ve ever heard that version. It’s not the one on Moon Pix, so somebody’s gotta help me out here. I decided to share the extended lyrics because they’re so beautiful…The Jukebox one ends after How selfish of you… with a bunch of Metal Heart, you’re not worth a thing‘s.. But all the stuff after it, I’ve never heard, so I’ve gotta find it!

It’s disappointing that this band has sort of fallen off the radar in the last couple of years…I hope it just means that they are working on another mindblowing album.. We could use another soulful female jazz voice to gravitate to in this spinning fast-forward world right about now.

Losing the stars without a sky
Losing the reasons why
You’re losing the calling that you’ve been faking
And I’m not kidding

It’s damned if you don’t and it’s damned if you do
Be true ’cause they’ll lock you up in a sad sad zoo
Oh hidy hidy hidy what cha tryin to prove
By hidy hidy hiding you’re not worth a thing

Sew your fortunes on a string
And hold them up to light
Blue smoke will take
A very violent flight
And you will be changed
and everything
And you will be in a very sad sad zoo.

I once was lost but now I’m found was blind
But now I see you
How selfish of you to believe in the meaning of all the bad dreaming

Metal heart you’re not hiding
Metal heart you’re not worth a thing
Metal heart you’re not hiding
Metal heart you’re not worth a thing
Back of your head

Big monster
Big monster lover
A bigger pusher over
Stands alone in most walks of life
Walks alone in most walks in life

See you looking through me
Like you’ve unzipped the zipper
You hold the big picture so well
Can’t you see that we’re going to hell

Couldn’t park that fucking car
Couldn’t part from you
Saw the back of your sweet mother’s head
Now I know that she thinks I am dead

Burnt flavor you hold the big picture so well
Can’t you see that we’re going to hell

Big monster lover
A bigger pusher over
Stands alone in most walks of life
Walks alone in most walks in life

Best thing ever…

…spotting images in marble floor tiles and bumpy plaster ceilings

Worst thing ever…

…Giving in to one nap in the afternoon and then screwing up your entire sleep pattern for weeks

Best thing ever…

…Finding money in the pocket of pants you haven’t worn since last winter

Worst thing ever…

…Cleaning the roof of a microwave

Oh, the horror!

I can’t sleep because I’m too excited about what I’m going to wear to school tomorrow! I know, I know.. the life of Emily High-Fash is so tough.

Here are two hints:

“You’re a stylish girl, so how about we end this in style?”

Remember how I loved you first, beneath the stars which came falling on our heads? But the stars, they’re just old light… they’re just old light…

She’s just the loveliest girl. I can’t wait until she releases a new album. What are your favourite Regina Spektor Songs?

It’s tough for me to choose… but I obviously love Samson, Music Box, Blue Lips, Human of the Year, Loveology, Machine, The Calculation, Apres Moi,Dance Anthem of the 80’s…

Somehow while I was supposed to be working on fashion show stuff, I started looking through some of my modelling pictures, and decided to share some from one of my favourite and in my opinion, strongest shoot.
