Here is a collection of what I think was the best and worst of Haute Couture Fashion Week Day 1 in Paris, featuring Christian Dior, Alexis Mabille, Giambattista Valli and Atelier Versace. I apologize that I couldn’t review Iris Van Herpen as I have not yet seen the entire collection, but I can’t tell the difference between the last 3 years of IVH collections anyway…
Also, these selections are simply my opinion and I am no expert in fashion criticism. All of these images are from Style.com

Christian Dior: This is what I think of as a happy marriage between the creative vision of Raf Simons and the traditional elegance of Dior
Christian Dior: Again, a happy Raf Simons x House of Dior relationship
Christian Dior: Bringing back the flowers from last season, but keeping it classy. I especially love the cascading between the yellow and pink
Christian Dior: A Dior show wouldn’t be complete without at least one classic tea-length gown. Very pretty
Christian Dior: Okay, I’m obsessed with masks, but this gown is really quite stunning.
Christian Dior: I’m digging these simple lines
Christian Dior: Clean, elegant, fresh. I like this.
Giambattista Valli: It seems to me that Giambattista Valli might have taken inspiration from the previous Dior collection with the strapless high-low dress and legging ensemble. I am very fond of this net-like fabric.
Giambattista Valli: I’m such a fan of this mini cape dress and the floral details on this are absolutely stunning.
Giambattista Valli: Another gorgeous cape mini
Giambattista Valli: Daisies?? I love daisies!
Giambattista Valli: I love this soft take on the symmetrical body con dress. On a side note, I hope the rumour about the big-nosed model trend isn’t true….
Giambattista Valli: Perhaps another inspiration from Christian Dior 2012? But done better. I think if you’re going to have a piece under a high-low skirt, it better be the same colour as the skirt….(or at least similar)… *cough* Simons *cough*
Giambattista Valli: I’m sitting on the fence about this one. I like the fabric duality, in this A line dress… Who remembers Chanel Couture FW 2011? But something about either the colour or the poofy-ness of the fur just isn’t sitting right…
Alexis Mabille: The entire Mabille show was so-so. I’m a little bit surprised by all tulle used in an Haute Couture show. But I do like this jacket and skirt combination
Alexis Mabille: I like the colour and lines in this dress. The little bow things are chunky and weird.
Atelier Versace: I’m surprised Versace even made it on this list. But there were a couple gems in this collation… like this gorgeous beaded gown
Atelier Versace: Kind of sitting on the fence about this one too. I love white fur. And the details are quite pretty. But it could have been tidier looking…
Worst of Day 1: (Images best viewed in Full Screen)
Christian Dior: I don’t even know what is going on here…
Christian Dior: What is up with these maroon cords!
Christian Dior: Patchwork on an Haute Couture runway? I don’t think so.
Christian Dior: The skirt thing is alright but what is up with the coral knee-highs?
Giambattista Valli: This looks like the sale rack of Le Chateau right after prom.
Giambattista Valli: I just don’t really understand the tulle skirt thing glued to the zebra bodice thing
Giambattista Valli: This belongs in the Cashmere toilet paper show. Except this year’s Cashmere collection was way more intricate than this hot mess.
Giambattista Valli: I don’t know what this is, but it looks like purple alien skin with hairy legs?
Giambattista Valli: It’s as if a skydiver’s parachute got caught in the turbines and ripped it to shreds
Giambattista Valli: Spiral boobies! heeehee
Atelier Versace: Did somebody spill highlighter all over my bath rug?
Atelier Versace: This is what you get when Donatella Versace and the “designers” at La Senza decide to go fabric shopping together
Atelier Versace: This could maybe work in a 70’s sci-fi film…
Atelier Versace: A pin-stripe, one-shoulder hot Italian mess.
Atelier Versace: Barbie at the rave
